You’ve been there, right? Life happens and you find yourself in a conversation with your brother, or Nancy, or Greg (who sits two desks away from you) about your dreams and desires. You get brave enough to bring up that book again. You know, the one you talked about last year. The reasons (excuses) why you haven’t written it yet keep spilling out of your mouth.
You “feel” an abrupt stop to the conversation as they begin shaking their head and say it. “Yeah, yeah. The book again. You keep talking about it.” Pause. And here it comes … “Do you know what’s in your way or what’s stopping you from writing that book?”
You just want to smack ’em, don’t you? Of course you do! Why? Because they have just called you on your stuff and you didn’t want them to. You wanted them to side with you and all of your excuses. But, they did not…not this time. So, what do you do? You have to come clean about what IS in your way. But you don’t want to. It’s hard. I can hear those other excuses churning in your head. STOP!
I know you probably think I have gone absolutely crazy, but hear me out. I get stuck just like you do but the difference is I have realized that I am responsible for my success. Me, period. If I want something badly enough to do what it takes to be, do, or have it, it’s mine.
So where did this story come from anyway? I was driving to visit one of my sisters recently and I kept noticing the dark place in the road in front of me. I realized that the spot that kept appearing was actually the shadow of my truck on the road. I started thinking about what we believe comes between us and where we want to go in life. Is it real? Is it really a foe?

Face the fear. Change your thoughts and your story changes.
Like on my drive, you have to keep moving toward what you want in life. The shadow will be there, moving as you and the sun moves. If you attempt to “run” from your shadow, you will likely never reach your desired destination.
How can you change things? It starts with what you feed your mind. Your beliefs in yourself. What you say to yourself in the mirror each day plays a huge role in the decisions you make and the courses you take.
You must decide what you want – your dreams, desires, goals – and then determine that that is what you will move toward. No matter what.
