Have you ever found yourself in a situation that was tense and then someone smiled? What happened to the situation? The issue or problem didn’t go away, but the smile brought a calmness into the mix. I have even seen instances where two people were arguing and all of a sudden one of them smiled. Then the other one. Before you knew it, both were rolling in laughter, forgetting about the argument altogether.
Charles Darwin’s Facial Feedback Response Theory suggests that the act of smiling actually makes us feel better. A simple smile can make not only you feel better, but those around you as well. Mother Teresa said: “I will never understand all the good that a simple smile can accomplish.”
