Do you ever make your life complicated? I know I sure do sometimes. I can obsess over the smallest detail – that doesn’t really matter at the time – and not see the simple beauty of the bigger picture right in front of my eyes. It’s all in what you are looking for. Do you agree?
I was talking with some folks in a shopping mall parking lot recently when all of a sudden, a little guy took off running. Of course when he started running, we all looked that direction to see where he was going and what could have gotten his attention. He ran to the edge of the grassy area and stopped. Put his hands in his pockets. And stood there.
A fire truck siren could be heard in the distance Have you ever seen how excited little ones can get when they hear sirens? Police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, and whatever else might make that sound, just seem to demand their attention.
This little guy was no different. Now, I have to say he had patience. It seemed to me that it took forever for the fire truck to come into view. But he waited and watched.
He didn’t notice the cars going up and down the highway. Nor the cars in the parking lot. Not even a glance back our way as we were talking…about him.
He didn’t care about anything except seeing that fire truck as it sped by. And he waited. Once it raced by, he was on to something else.
I don’t know about you, but I believe we would be more in love with life if we could continue to look at it through the eyes of a child.
Keeping it simple. Focusing on what is important to us. And experiencing the thrill and excitement of it. Would you like to live life that way?
Here is a collection of five of my favorite quotes about life. Now, I know you are likely familiar with all, or at least a few, of them., but I hope you enjoy reading them again.
-
We do not remember the days, we remember the moments.Cesare Pavese
-
Most people have never learned that one of the main aims in life is to enjoy it.Samuel Butler
-
I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.Arthur Rubinstein
-
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.Confucius
-
In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.Abraham Lincoln
I encourage you to take a minute and read the quotes again. Then close your eyes and let the words soak in. Take a deep breath in. Exhale.
Would you enjoy looking at life through the eyes of a child? They seem to focus on what is right in front of them. Let’s do that. Determine what is really important to you, and focus on that. Find work that you love. Spend time with people who you enjoy being with. Live in a place that feeds your soul. Travel and take in all of the beauty you can. You can do it. I know you can.
After all (and yes, it’s one more quote), “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” – George Bernard Shaw
Ok, I realize that this is a different type of post than I typically write. It’s not about motivation and “doing” stuff. We tend to get so caught up in that day after day, that we sometimes forget to slow down and enjoy LIFE. The simple things can bring the most profound joy. You know what LIFE stands for, right?
Live In Full Expression. Live in full expression of who you are.
That’s it for today with the exception of the usual. Remember these things: Dream big. Believe in yourself. Let’s do the work.
Life–your life–is valuable. Love it and above all, LIVE it!
See you next time,
Deb Bennett
